There is no feeling quite like finishing up your long-awaited ebook.
But before publishing your ebook, there are a few things you should be doing. Let’s talk about the six things you should be — but might not be — doing before publishing your book.
You need to create a sales page.
Without a sales page, how will people be able to purchase your book? Even if you’re selling on another platform, it’s always a good idea to set up a sales page on your own website or through your email service provider (ESP).
By creating a sales page through your website or an ESP like Mailerlite, MailChimp, or ConvertKit, you can capture email addresses and then redirect the customer to their cart to checkout.
You need to optimize your sales page SEO.
Instead of relying solely on word-of-mouth or just luck to get attention drawn to your ebook, you need to do some basic SEO optimization. Spending a few extra minutes to make sure your sales page is optimized will help you in search rankings, leading to more organic traffic to your ebook and in turn, more sales.
If selling on your own website, you can use SEO plugins like Yoast to check the strength of your optimization. Or, if you choose to sell on another platform such as Amazon, you can use keywords and phrases that will increase your searchability and relevance on the platform.
You need to pre-sell your ebook.
There is nothing more discouraging as a writer than to spend hours putting together your ebook only for it to make zero sales. It’s heartbreaking and disappointing, and makes you feel like you wasted your time, right?
By pre-selling before publishing your ebook, you can find out whether or not people are actually interested in buying it before you put in hours of work. You can also use pre-sales as an opportunity to offer early bird discounts, which may increase your overall sales!
You need to promote your e-book launch on social media.
Let people know what you’re working on and when they can expect it to be ready! This will build up the anticipation and excitement for your launch.
Use countdowns to build suspense. Consider doing a giveaway for X if people share your launch promos or invite friends to like/follow your page. Promoting your e-book before it’s ready can help you gain new subscribers and potential customers.
You need to schedule launch day emails and posts.
After ramping up the excitement for launch day, you need to be sure to make a huge announcement when your ebook goes live. After all, people will be expecting it!
Let people know exactly where they can go to purchase your new release, and be ready to share the hell out of that link after you publish.
You need to proofread one last time.
Before publishing your ebook, you need to do just one more pass through everything to make sure it is ready for release. You may catch a last minute typo or realize you left an entire section out from the appendix.
