As a business owner or freelancer, you need to publish at least one ebook.
Before we discover your ebook topic, let me just say this. If you own a brick-and-mortar business and you’ve not written an ebook yet, you’re missing out on the opportunity to reach potential clients and customers outside of your local community. For those who offer online services and digital products, you’re losing the chance for another passive income stream.
When you think about it, the ROI from creating such a quick-to-make product is worth it.
So why haven’t you published your ebook yet?
For many business owners and freelancers, they use time as an excuse not to publish. Maybe your schedule is fully booked so writing a book has taken a backseat to everything else. If that’s the case, I’ll tell you right now you’re full of sh*t.
People make time for the things that are important to them; if publishing an ebook is important to you, you will find time to write it. You can even use my 14-day guide for creating an ebook to help you do it!
If you don’t fall into that category, then maybe your primary reason for not writing your book is because you don’t know what it should be about. While that is a more valid excuse, it shouldn’t stop you from trying to complete your ebook.
If you’re totally stuck on what your ebook topic should be, take out a sheet of paper or open up a Google Doc right now. Yes, really. Got it? Okay, good.
First, I want you to write down everything that comes to mind for the following questions:
- What are you an expert on?
- Have you gone through any unique experiences in life?
- What do people come to you for advice about?
These can be tangible products, they can be services or applications, or they can be completely abstract ideas.
Next, write down your response to the following:
- What type of business do you run?
Is your business service-based, such as coaching, lifestyle, wellness, etc where you do not exchange any physical or digital products? Or is your business product-based, either digital content or courses, physical products that you ship or sell in-store, etc?
Ask yourself which topics overlap between your expertise and your business. Circle, star, or highlight those topics.
Now, consider your ideal client.
- Who is your ideal client?
- What do they struggle with?
- What product(s) or service(s) are they most interested in?
Finally, take a look at your list of circled topics and underline ones that align with your ideal client’s interests.
By now you should have an e-book topic in mind. Hopefully you had an “Aha!” moment while brainstorming and answering those questions, and are ready to start planning your ebook.
